New Ferreirinha Bridge Over the River Douro and Accesses Between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia

The DJV, formed by EDGAR CARDOSO, ARENAS & ASOCIADOS and NOARQ, won the design competition for a new bridge between Porto and V. N. de Gaia, crossing over the Douro River. The bridge will serve a metro line, pedestrian and cycling paths, and will be located just 500 m upstream from Arrábida Bridge, a national monument. It is a frame-type structure with a 403m main span, a total length of 838 m, and peaks at a height of more than 75 m above the water. Detailed design is complete, and construction started in January 2024.
